"Did you check in yet?" I've heard myself say it dozens of times now and will probably say it dozens more. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, I'm referring to the latest "darling du jour" of the social media world - Foursquare.
In case you've missed the tsunami of excitement over Foursquare, this rapidly rising social media tool, mashes up geolocation with social networking and smartphones to provide a service that allows you and your friends to share where you are in realtime. It can even automatically post to Facebook and Twitter accounts - but really what doesn't these days?
Foursquare "Badges" and "Mayorships" and specials are awarded to users for repeated attendance of one or more location. It also reveals your stats: Number of nights out, number of places you've checked in and how many times you've checked in. (There are privacy variables which you can adjust accordingly.)
When I first started using Foursquare it was a just a bit of an experiment. I basically just wanted to see what the fuss was all about. The truth is, there really isn't a big fuss, unless you can actually get more out of it than a little bit of trivial fun.
Well, we're ready to give you a real reason to join the now nearly one million users of Foursquare in the U.S.
The 3oz Check-In: June Robust Foursquare Special
Check-in to Robust on Foursquare throughout the month of June and receive a 3-ounce glass of wine, your choice of our selection of one red or white - and don't worry we pride ourselves on the quality of all of our wines. (Only one check-in honored per day) "The Mayor", the person who checks-in to Robust the most, at the end of the month will be awarded a $50 gift card and a magnum of Champagne.
For those of you who have a competitive streak (like me) it adds a little bit more fun to the phenomenon. Plus it's always fun to get a free glass of wine.
For those of you on Twitter, and non-tweeters too, we're gettin' the party started to help kick things off.
Please join us for a Robust Foursquare Tweetup on Wednesday, June 9 at 6pm.
And be sure to CHECK IN! ;)
Cheers!
